CONNECTING ACADEMIC SCIENCE WITH ENTERPRISE: LEADING SCIENTISTS WORKING AT BATECO GROUP
On November 5, 2026, Bateco Group welcomed and worked with a delegation of leading scientists from the academic sector. The meeting opened up many cooperation directions in research, application, and commercialization of technology, aiming to turn research results into products serving production and life.
The delegation was led by Professor Dr. Vu Dinh Lam, General Director of the Vietnam Space Center. Also participating in the delegation were leaders of the Vietnam Space Center, the Board of Directors, and scientists from the Institute of Materials Science, along with leaders of the Institute of Information Technology. These are the units holding many cutting-edge research directions of Vietnamese science, from satellite technology, advanced materials to artificial intelligence.

From the laboratory to practical problems
The working session took place in an open atmosphere, with many in-depth professional contents. Scientists introduced research directions that can be immediately applied to production and business activities. Photonic technology and image sensors can serve to monitor construction, observe forest resources and land from space. Machine learning algorithms allow businesses to exploit operational data to predict incidents, optimize costs, and enhance productivity. In the field of materials, fireproof paint helps increase safety levels for factories and industrial works. Electromagnetic wave-absorbing coatings, often referred to as camouflage paint, open up prospects for application in defense and protection of electronic devices. In addition, nano materials and carbon materials such as carbon nanotubes or graphene are expected to create lighter, more durable products with better thermal and electrical conductivity compared to traditional materials.
From these experiences, the Head of the delegation proposed to build a multi-dimensional consultation mechanism, in which research institutes, businesses, state management agencies, and industry associations participate in dialogue together. Alongside this, he suggested a direct cooperation model between businesses and scientists. According to this model, businesses act as investors, while scientists serve as advisors for research and development (R&D) activities right at the enterprise. This approach is expected to shorten the gap between the laboratory and the market.
According to the delegates, these research directions are not isolated but are part of the general flow of global science and technology. As many natural resources are dwindling and extraction costs are rising, countries and large corporations are shifting towards technologies that use fewer materials, consume less energy, and emit less. The circular economy model is gradually replacing the “extract-use-dispose” production method. New generation materials are designed to have a longer lifespan and can be recycled at the end of their life cycle. Artificial intelligence is becoming a tool for energy management in factories, buildings, and power grids. These trends are also linked to the commitment to bring net emissions to “0” that Vietnam has proposed, thereby setting the requirement for technological innovation for domestic enterprises.
Enterprises need a wider door to access research
Enterprises need a wider door to access researchWelcoming and speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of Bateco Group Phạm Anh Tuấn introduced the delegation to the development journey, areas of activity, and new directions of the Group as the country enters a development era. The Chairman of Bateco expressed his respect for the academic scientific community. According to him, the leading intellectual team has contributed persistently and silently to the country’s development, while also being an important support for enterprises on the path of innovation.
The Chairman of Bateco also pointed out a paradox. Many research projects funded by the state budget have high application value, but enterprises still face numerous barriers when wanting to access and transfer them. He believes that if these projects are opened up, they will become a competitive advantage not just for a single enterprise but for the entire economy that is in a transitional phase.
Proposing the model of “investing enterprises – consulting scientists”
Sharing at the meeting, Prof. Dr. Vũ Đình Lãm reviewed some achievements and inventions of Vietnamese scientists that have been put into practice. He also analyzed the public-private cooperation frameworks currently being applied in the development of science and technology.
